Radio Drama Series: Johnny Chase

news

Johnny Chase Agent Of SpaceThis past season we’ve had about a dozen inquiries about Johnny Chase, Secret Agent of Space the late 1970s early 1980s CBC Radio Drama series. We suspect this is mostly due to it airing on the XM Radio’s Sonic Theater channel 163 recently – which is sadly only available in the USA. More unfortuantely the series is no longer available to Sonic Theater, at least in the forseeable future, and no CD or cassette editions of the 79 episode series have been known to have been manufactured. Unlike many USA Science Fiction OTR series like X-Minus One, Johnny Chase is not in the public domain in either Canada or the USA. So what is a Johnny Chase fan to do? Well, we’ve got some contacts at CBC and we’d be happy to pass along any petition to make the show available on CD. If you’re interested in spearheading this petition, or just want to be informed when we get more info you can reply to this post with your contact details and we’ll keep you apprised of the Johnny Chase situation.

  1. I hope Johnny Chase comes to CD, or something. It sounds like an interesting series. Wish I had know about it when it was out in the 70’s.

  2. I remember the series well. Like so much heard on CBC at the time, it was unique and original. Do let me know if there are further developments.

  3. Would love to have the series on CD. Used to listen to it faithfully. A nice companion to “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” which is available via the BBC (not sure if they ship to North America). Let me know developments.

  4. I purchased 26 episodes on cassette from season 2 from a guy I found on line about 5 years back. It’s the whole series where the sun gets blown up and humanity has to find a new place to live. It’s awesome to hear it again!

I’ll try and find him again and I will post the link if I do…

  5. I actually still have recordings of most of the episodes on cassette – I’m converting them to wavs/mp3s. Sadly, the quality is not the best. Still pretty cool to hear them after all these years. I would totally buy both series 1 & 2 if they became available.

  6. I listened to this series on xm radio and really liked it. During the broadcast of the series about Star Princess Ka alla xm lost the deal they had with cbc and I never got to hear the end. I hope someday whoever holds the rights releases it for publication. I really want to know how it ended.

  7. The series storyline didn’t actually come to an end. Chase and the ragtag fleet were set to explore a new area called “The Realm of Vung,” leaving the scenario open for a third season.

If anyone knows where I can get even one single episode of this series, please let me know. I would be eternally greatful.

  8. I remember the series Johnny Chase when I was in my latter years of high school. I very much would enjoy hearing of further developments. Thanks

  9. Remember hearing JOHNNY CHASE on ‘border radio – the BIG C’ , a.k.a. the CBC.
Late 1970’s – STAR WARS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, etc,
maybe JOHNNY CHASE did too good a homage to other Sci Fi properties.
Borrowed too much, it was best to not repeat past the first airing.
Recall hearing half on AM and half on FM, excellent use of stereo of the day to create great aural ambience.

Here and now, IN THE 21ST CENTURY!!! I have only found one episode of JOHNNY CHASE on the web, not sure if fan site or Internet Archive. Google at your peril!

    MJM

  10. I would like to know if anyone has any information on how to get both seasons of Johnny Chase Secret Agent of Space. I had information in the past on how to get both seasons on mp3 and CD but it was a few years ago and I can’t remember the website that had the series to purchase. If anyone remembers or knows any other way of getting the full seasons I would appreciate any help I can get.
    Thank you..
