RICHARD K. MORGAN

Richard K. Morgan (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Richard_Morgan_270408.jpg)RICHARD K. MORGAN (1965 -) A British science fiction author is a former ESL teacher, world traveler and history student. In 2002 his first novel Altered Carbon was published, combining elements of cyberpunk and hardboiled detective fiction and noir. The film rights to Altered Carbon reported to be for a near unprecedented $1,000,000. That payday enabled Morgan to become a full-time writer. In 2003 the U.S. paperback publication of Altered Carbon received the Philip K. Dick Award. A common theme to Morgan’s novels is that they take place in dystopias. His attitude is summed up by the following statement: “Society is, always has been and always will be a structure for the exploitation and oppression of the majority through systems of political force dictated by an élite, enforced by thugs, uniformed or not, and upheld by a willful ignorance and stupidity on the part of the very majority whom the system oppresses.” Market Forces is set in the near future. Morgan says that the novel was originally written as a short story, then as a screenplay (but neither have been published). Morgan also wrote two six-issue miniseries for Marvel Comics under the Marvel Knights imprint. Every Richard K. Morgan novel so far has been published as an audiobook by Tantor Media.
