Theres a whole genre of “Hollow Earth” myths and tales which have filtered through to speculative and fantastical fiction.
Here are couple of interesting wiki’s on the subject
ERB started off drilling down but he later, certainly in Tarzan, used the opening at the North Pole. Apart from the issue of gravity [which we still dont understand but can describe better as to how and where it should work] at the time ERB didnt particularly violate any known scientific principle. Whhoops OK there is the time dilation. Now maybe that sun in there is a white hole and its a relativistic effect a la Mr Einstein.
Laughs OK OK but tell me which seems to make the most sense a hollow earth or a flat one.
