X-Minus One videoIt isn’t often that we direct you towards video, SFFaudio is above that de rigeur tripe, but this vid just might be worth a look. X-Minus One fan Jason Pichonsky has animated a trailer of several X-Minus One stories!

There was an odd byproduct of seeing the video – it was strange enough to see someone else’s visualizations of familiar stories that we’re designed to be heard – the images are compelling but I kept trying to navigate away from the site – and when I did, to my repeated astonishment, the images disappeared from my mind every time! It is almost as if a video, once seen, drives out imagination. Check it out for yourself, we aren’t hosting the original YouTube video, but you can view it HERE.

"Canadia 2056" COUNTDOWN: T Minus 11 Days

Canadia 2056With its typical unassuming strategy I’ve heard absolutely nothing on CBC Radio One to promote their upcoming Radio Drama series Canadia. But some diligent searches have yielded up these tiny tidbits: The show is actually going to be called Canadia 2056 and is being described as…

“It is the year 2056. The United States has launched an armada to destroy an alien threat. Canada sends the nation’s only publicly-funded spacecraft, The Canadia – a ship with a single purpose. Flush. To plunge the Americans’ toilets. Travel with them.”

Another source describes it as “a celestially funny comedy series set in the year 2056 starring Matt Watts.” Matt Watts, who not only stars in the show but also writes it, describes the show as being “about an American Midshipman on a Canadian maintenance ship, in an American fleet headed towards war.”

The official CBC sub-site for the show is HERE, though there is nothing more there at the moment. Is this the Science Fiction/Comedy series we’ve all been waiting for? Tune in April 20th to find out. The show starts with its first episode:

Friday, April 20, 2007, 11:30 a.m on CBC Radio One (in Canada) and streaming online – worldwide.

H. G. WellsLast year in the Spring we had our first ever “Author Focus Month” (on Harlan Ellison). This month, we’re going to reach back to the late 19th century and early 20th for our next author! Throughout April 2007 we’ll be giving particular attention to H.G. Wells. Wells is well represented in audio, with stories, novels and non-fiction all available from professional publishers and amateur narrators. We’ll bring reviews of some of these, links to FREE online sources for more and anything else H.G. Wells related that we can think of. Some of our podcast partners will also be providing Wells content for the occasion. If it hasn’t been declared officially anywhere else you heard it here first… April 2007 is H.G. Wells Month!

BBC announces Douglas Adams RADIO DRAMAS

BBC AudiobooksThe BBC has written in to tell us that there are three new dramatisations of Douglas Adams’s novels in the works! The two Dirk Gently novels (previously released as unabridged audiobooks) will be adapted into Radio Dramas! Also in the works is a Radio Dramatization of Adams’ last, and unfinished novel: The Salmon Of Doubt. These will all be published by BBC Audiobooks, beginning later this year and are being produced by Above The Title Productions with Dirk Maggs on board as director!

Maggs and Above The Title are the team responsible for the The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy‘s Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential Phase productions. The three new series will also be broadcast on BBC Radio 4, beginning with Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency in October 2007. The other two titles are The Long Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul and Adams’s unfinished novel The Salmon Of Doubt. Each series will be comprise of six 30 minute episodes. Recording begins in May 2007. BBC Audiobooks will publish Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on November 8th 2007 .

Personally I’m super-juiced at the prospect of hearing dramatizations of the Svlad Cjelli adventures – I still haven’t heard much about The Salmon Of Doubt though. Is that a Dirk Gently novel too?

LocusThe latest issue of Locus The Magazine Of The Science Fiction and Fantasy Field (the hardcopy edition) has a story of interest:

“Audio rights to Philip K. Dick’s The Man In The High Castle, Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said, Ubik, Valis, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, Dr. Bloodmoney, and two untitled story collections went to Haila Williams at Blackstone Audio via Russell Galen.”
