JMS on the set of The Adventures Of Apocalypse AlWay back in 2004 we brought you the news that J. Michael Straczynski had sold a series to CBC Radio. We’ve been patiently waiting two years and nothing has come of it… until today!

Last weekend, JMS was seen in the CBC Toronto studios with his Jeremiah cohort Sara (Samm) Barnes, producing the first batch of twenty 5 minute episodes of his new radio drama The Adventures of Apocalypse Al. The lead role is being voiced by Canadian TV star Cynthia Dale. We’ve been informed that further details will likely show up in recorded TV interview set to air on Space: The Imagination Station (Canada’s version of The SciFi Channel) during the Hypaspace program tommorow afternoon (Sunday February 19th).

In the meantime check out this 50 second preview video by clicking HERE ( Windows Media Player format).

UPDATE: Joe Mahoney, CBC Radio producer and friend to SF&F audio fans worldwide, points out that his blog AssortedNonsense.com has pictures of the recording session! Check them out THERE, along with his posts or peek at his Flickr account directly.

Science Fiction Audio - JMSAn update to our December 2004 announcement. CITY OF DREAMS creator and writing-machine J. Michael Straczynski has confirmed he’ll be in Toronto this month (Feb. 2005) co-directing “The Adventures Of Apocalypse Al” for eventual broadcast on CBC Radio One. Our Torontonian readers are asked to be on the lookout for this man:

He will likely be armed with either a typwriter, computer keyboard or possibly a pen and paper and should be considered a very prolific Science Fiction author. If you spot him, be courteous, polite and send us a photo!

SFFaudio News

CBC Radio OneFrom Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski comes a new limited series The Adventures Of Apocalypse Al to be broadcast on CBC Radio One. Straczynski, says that it is an 80-minute audio drama (made up of 20 five minute episodes) and will be produced and co-directed in Toronto by himself. He describes it as “comedy/action, very noir, with a supernatural bent.” This sounds great to me I’m a big fan of his short lived anthology series City Of Dreams produced for Seeing Ear Theater. The series is scheduled to air in 5 five-minute segments weekdays for four weeks, with half hour recaps on the weekend (presumably collecting that week’s broadcasts). The scripts have been completed so casting and production are sure to start soon. Straczynski suggests it will be syndicated worldwide, “to the BBC and elsewhere,” and he assures us it will be released on CD “down the road”. We’ll let you know when we know more about airdates.
